Summary: This is the continued story of Sparhawk, a Pandion Church Knight, and his companions in the search for Bhelliom, a magical stone created by Ghewrig, the dwarfed Troll, and the only thing now that can save Sparhawk's beloved queen, Ehlana. After discovering the manner of his queen's illness, Sparhawk diligently begins to trace through history in search of the lost Bhelliom. However, Sparhawk is not the only one searching for the powerful stone. Azash, most evil of the Elder Gods, wants Bhelliom as well, and does all he can to stop Sparhawk in his quest. Along the way, Sparhawk encounters a Seeker, one of Azash's evil conjured creatures, that has the ability to take control of the minds of men and track down anyone quicker than a blood-hound. Worst of all, time is running short for Ehlana, and as time ticks by, Sparhawk gets increasingly frustrated. Azash has many resources, but he is not the only one who wants Sparhawks quest stopped. A renegade knight wants Sparhawk to fail as well, and he is doing all in his power to see that Sparhawk's quest is vain. Can Sparhawk ever find the magical stone to take it back to his queen to save her?

Explanation of Rating: The combination of religion, politics, and magic is simply incredible. Who knew these three things could ever be put together? Eddings describes the dark world of life under a an evil dictator-wanna-be and the forces that oppose his long arm. The drama and action will thrill you to the core as you read about the amazing underworld of thieves and beggars. You won't be able to control your laughter as you discover the colorful and humorous personalities of Edding's characters. Eddings should be given awards for the stunning job of creating a whole new world where a reader can immerse him/herself and get lost in the imagination of another.

Favorite Passage: There are simply too many good ones to choose from. I love all of the witty and clever jokes told in this book and. If I did have a favorite passage, it would involve a conversation between Sparhawk, and his quick-fingered thief and friend Talen, who can never keep his hands from taking whatever small valuables he can from you without you noticing a thing.
