Book Title: A Child Called It
Author: Dave Pelzer
Pages: 153
Rating: *****It was Amazing

Recommendation: This book is very sad and shocking. The thing that makes it more shocking is that it's a real story. He does get rescued so the whole book isn't sad.

Summary: This is the story of Dave Pelzer. He tells the story about living with his abusive alcoholic mother. She played games that nearly killed him. She made him sleep in the basement and an army cot as his bed. She make hem wear the same clothes everyday that were torn and smelled bad. She starved hem for days. When she did feed him, he had to eat his brother’s leftover scraps or rotten food that even the dogs wouldn't eat. He even resorted to stealing other kid’s lunches and eating out of the garbage.

Explanation of Rating: This book is a reality check to people that things like this really do happen. He stayed strong and survived despite his mother’s cruel actions.

Favorite Passage: A few miles later, we are on highway 280, heading towards the outskirts of Daly City. I look to my right and see a sign that reads “THE MOST BEAUTIFUL HIGHWAY IN THE WORLD.’ The officer smiles with relief, as we leave the city limits. “David Pelzer,” he says, “you’re free.”

I liked that passage because that’s when he realizes that he doesn’t have to put up with his mother’s abuse anymore.
