Republic Commando: Hard Contact
****Really liked it
It is definitely a must-read for Star Wars fans like me. It gives really great detail about their battles, both internal and external. It also has mystery, suspense, romance, and things that get blown up, all of which make a great Star Wars book.
It involves a mission to a Separatist planet to capture a scientist who is developing a nanovirus that will kill all the clones, and capture the nanovirus as well. They have to cross a planet that is filled with idiot farmers and these creatures known as Gurlanins that are on the Republic's side (as long as the Republic honors their part of the bargain). Along the way, one of the commandos, Darman, falls in love with Etain, a female Jedi commander who doesn't know what she's doing, and helps her get better as a Jedi and a commander. They have to face a cold-blooded killer Mandalorian named Ghez Hokan, who is a Separatist commander. Along the major part of the mission, they send one of them in a excavation droid that works like a bulldozer with major explosives in it, and blow up a whole large building with it. They later have to break into a bunker to capture the scientist and virus. She put up one heck of a fight, and they have to sedate her to leave.
I gave it a four because there is a lot involved, and it's easy to get misplaced and confused. But I like it. It's really good when it comes to Star Wars. It also fits into the chronology really well. It also proves that Anakin wasn't the only Jedi who was in love. Plus it has a lot of action. It also has perspective from lots of people about the Jedi and clones. You just can't put it down.
'Weequay didn't feel all the same. She knew this one. He had chashed her across a Barq field. He was a rapist and a murderer, not that the descriptions set him apart from any other of Hokan's thugs. She reached for her lightsaber.
" Whoa." Darman said.
" Girlie?" Guta-Nay said.
" I'll give you Girlie," she said, but Darman caught her arm and she was instantly ashamed of her reaction.- chapter 13
The reason I enjoyed it was because it was funny. They have the scene in the field earlier, and I almost wish Etain had beat him up. It would have been rather funny.
