Recommendation: This book is great. It helps remind you of how good you have it. Honestly this book should be therapeutically approved. This a story of a child who was literally beaten by his bipolar mother. This Dave's amazing courage to live through all of this will take your breath away.
Summary: This is a family of five all together. Dave is the youngest boy of three kids and is constantly being picked on. Thankfully his dad is there but not for long soon his parents get a divorce and it all goes down here from there. His mother goes on a rage and takes her anger out on him. When one day her anger hits an all high. when one night she pulls Dave out of bed.(which is in the garage). Makes him stay up and listen to her drunk self ramble on and on. then she grabs a knife and stabbed Dave.... to know what happens you must read the book.
Explanation of rating: This is an amazing book there is no other book out there like it. The abuse of this young boy is unforgettably sad. It is one of those books that would make John Senna cry. This book came from this child himself. He relived the nightmare to be able to share it with us. This book relates to me in so many ways. I am so glad i have had the chance to read this book. I honestly believe it has made me a better person. Dave has given all human beings an excuse not to say that they have it way bad and there is nothing they can do about it. It is packed with emotion and is a must read book!
Favorite Passage: "SMACK! Mother hits me in the face, and i topple to the floor. I know better than to stand there and take the hit. I learned the hard way that she takes that as an act of defiance, which means more hits, or worst of all, no food. I regain my posture and dodge her looks, as she screams into my ears..." - Chapter 1 page 1 paragraph 2.
I love this passage because it portraitist the real issue all summed up into three sentences. It is hard to read but that is what this book is all about it shows the real Dave Pelzer.
